Academy graduate Herson Rodrigues Alves signs first pro deal.
Brentford scholar Herson Rodrigues Alves has signed his first professional contract.
The teenager, 18 last month, will stay with Brentford until the summer of 2016.
Herson was part of the Brentford team that won the prestigious Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland in 2012.
But registration difficulties have prevented him playing much football since signing his scholarship in 2013.
Formerly at Portuguese giants S.L. Benfica in his early teens, Herson will be a fully registered Brentford player once international clearance is received.
Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “Herson is a very talented attacker and I am delighted that he has signed his first professional contract.
“Herson was one of the first players we brought to the Club when the overhaul of the youth development structure started almost five years ago.
“He spent some time at Benfica which meant we had to reach an agreement with them and that prevented us registering him to play competitive games over the past 18 months.
“That has all been resolved now and we wanted to get Herson signed to a professional deal as soon as he turned 18.
“He played a key role in us winning the Milk Cup in 2012 and is the first of that group to sign a professional contract.
“Herson hasn’t played much football in the past 18 months, which has been tough for him.
“But he has trained well and played when he could and that has shown us that it is right to give him a professional contract.
“He will be able to play games again once international clearance is received and can feature for our Under-18s and Under-21s for the rest of the season.
“I am sure he will develop quickly with game time and we can see how good a player he is.”
