Bees pick up defender from Sky Bet Championship rivals
Brentford have signed left sided England Under-19 defender Jack O’Connell from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old was in West London today, Monday February 2, finalising the move and has signed a contract to stay at Griffin Park until the end of the 2017/18 season.
Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Manager, said: “We are delighted to secure another very talented young player.
“Jack is a player who has significant development potential left in him.
“He fits the profile of what we look for when bringing a young player in to the Club.
“He will benefit enormously from working and playing with our senior professionals.
“Jack is a player that will add value for us on and off the pitch.
“I look forward to working with him.”
The tall defender, who can play at left back or centre half, came through the youth ranks at Blackburn.
He turned professional in the summer of 2012 and had loan spells at Rotherham United and York City during the 2012/13 season before spending the last campaign on loan at Rochdale.
Jack played 38 Sky Bet League Two games for the Greater Manchester outfit as they won promotion, making 45 appearances in all competitions.
He then went back to Rochdale for the first half of the current season and made 17 League One appearances for The Dale, 19 in all competitions, before being recalled at the start of January.
Jack also scored his first professional goals this season, getting three in his 17 league games.
The 20-year-old has represented England at Under-18 and Under-19 level, making nine appearances in total.
He captained an England Under-19 side that included Arsenal’s Calum Chambers and Chuba Akpom.
Jack has made one appearance for Blackburn, in a Capital One Cup tie against Scunthorpe United.
