Defender on long wait for debut goal.
Captain Jake Bidwell looked back on a bittersweet evening that saw him score his first competitive goal after four years at the Club. He rose high from a corner to start the comeback but Cardiff snatched victory at the death through Kenwyne Jones.
“We didn’t start great,” said Jake. “2-0 down, to then get ourselves back to 2-2 and end up with nothing is disappointing. We can take a few positives from the second half performance. We weren’t great in the first half but we bounced back and performed.”
In the 68th minute Jake ended his four-year wait for a goal in Brentford colours, heading home to give The Bees hope of getting something out of the game.
“I’d like to think it’s been coming,” said Jake. “The last few weeks I’ve come close a few times so hopefully I won’t have to wait 180-odd games for the next one and I can get a couple more before the end of the season.”
Despite the goal, Jake reflected on the result which left Brentford travelling down the M4 pointless.
“Regardless of what we say about the game, that’s the only fact that matters,” said Jake. “We’ve got no points tonight so we’ve got to look at the first half performance and see what we did wrong and use that to put in a positive performance on Saturday.”
