Brentford youngster enjoys international success with England's Under-16s
Ian Carlo Poveda helped England's Under-16s to win the Nike International Tournament in Florida this weekend, featuring in all three matches. Dan Micciche's side knew that a draw with The Netherlands would be enough, after earlier wins over hosts USA and Brazil, to lift the trophy and they did it the hard way coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 on Sunday.
After coming off the bench to help England beat the USA on Thursday and setting up The Young Lions second in their 2-0 win over Brazil on Friday, Ian Carlo started last night's match in Lakewood Ranch. Daishawn Redan and Dereck Darkwa threatened to spoil England's party as they netted inside the opening quarter of an hour but Manchester City forward Jadon Sancho pulled one back just before the break, with Ian Carlo involved in the build-up. Ian Carlo was substituted with 30 minutes to play and eventually England found the all-important equaliser in the final minute as Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon bundled the ball home to spark wild celebrations from those in white.
Ian Carlo has made 11 appearances for The Bees' Youth Team this season, scoring three goals, and also made his Development Squad debut against Charlton Athletic last April.
All three England games were streamed live on USA Soccer's YouTube channel and you can watch them again in full by clicking here.
