Player of the Year prize for on-loan defender
The form of Brentford Development Squad defender Alfie Mawson during his season-long loan at Wycombe Wanderers has earned him further recognition.
The 21-year-old has been with the Sky Bet League Two club for the whole of the 2014/15 season, playing 46 games, 44 of them in the league, and scoring five goals.
His performances have seen him named in the Football League Team of the Week twice and he also finish third in the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Year award, voted for by League Two manager.
On Saturday, April 25, Alfie was named Player of the Year by the Wycombe Wanderers Independent Supporters Club.
He picked up the prize before Wycombe’s last home game of the regular season, a 1-0 defeat to Morecambe.
That was Wycombe’s third defeat in their last six, a period in which they have taken seven points, and leaves them fifth in the table going in to the last weekend of the season.
They will face Northampton Town away from home on Saturday, May 2, needing a win to have any chance of automatic promotion.
Southend United are in the third automatic promotion spot, three points ahead, while Bury are fourth, one point better off than Wycombe.
Wycombe have the best goal difference so will be promoted if they win, Southend lose and Bury do not win.
