ALFIE MAWSON EXTENDS WYCOME LOAN

1 September 2014

Brentford Development Squad central defender Alfie Mawson to stay at Sky Bet League Two Wycombe Wanderers on loan until January

Brentford Development Squad central defender Alfie Mawson has extended his loan at Sky Bet League Two Wycombe Wanderers until January.

The 20-year-old signed a Youth Loan with the Buckinghamshire side before the start of the 12014/15 season.

It was originally due to run until September 7 but has now been extended until January 1 2015.

Alfie has played all six of Wycombe’s games so far this season, alongside Aaron Pierre – who played alongside Alfie in the centre of defence at Under-21 level and joined Wanderers on a permanent basis in the summer after a successful loan deal, and has helped Wanderers to three league wins and a draw from five League Two matches.

Wycombe sit fifth in the table.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “We have had a number of good reports about Alfie in his first few weeks at Wycombe.

“Wycombe have had a very good start to the season and Alfie has played his part in that, resuming his partnership with Aaron Pierre that served us so well.

“He has also represented Brentford FC well off the pitch, which is important.

“Wycombe were keen to keep him and we were very happy for him to stay and continue to get Football League experience.

“He has learnt a lot so far and will, I am sure, continue to do so.”

Alfie signed his second professional contract – a one-year deal – in the close season.

He had previously signed a two-year Development Squad contract in the summer of 2012 after completing his scholarship.

In an injury-hit 2012/13 season, Alfie played 11 games for The Bees in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South.

Alfie played 12 Under-21 league games in 2013/14, scoring three times, and made his First Team debut in the Capital One Cup defeat against Derby County.
