Awards shared at Brentford FC Player of the Year Ball
Brentford’s 2013/14 season was marked in style at the Player of the Year Ball last night.
Hundreds of Brentford fans joined players, management and staff to celebrate the season.
The Bees won promotion this year and will be playing in the second tier next season for the first time since 1993.
They also broke a string of Club Records in the process including the most points won in a season.
The 94 points achieved in winning promotion dwarfed the previous record of 85.
As announced last night, Alan McCormack was named Supporters’ Player of the Year, ahead of Tony Craig and Adam Forshaw.
And the rest of the night’s awards were shared around.
Tony Craig won Players’ Player of the Season and also picked up the Bees Travel Club ‘Player of the Year’ award, voted for by those who travel on the Supporters’ Association coaches to away matches, for his performances away from home this season.
Adam Forshaw won the Goal of the Season prize for his strike in the win away to Crewe Alexandra in February.
Marcello Trotta’s goal in the win at Leyton Orient was second in the poll, voted for by supporters, and Sam Saunders’ strike in the Boxing Day win over Swindon Town finished third.
Marcello did get an award – The Bees Player Outstanding Moment of the Season award.
The Bees Player Show team, who produce the home match coverage for the Bees Player premium website service, nominated him for the Leyton Orient goal.
Clayton Donaldson and Kevin O’Connor were joint winners of the Community Player of the Year prize, awarded for work in the community and with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.
The final regular award, the first awarded, and the most coveted among the squad, the Hottie of the Year prize, was won by Sam Saunders.
There was, however, a special presentation to Club Captain Kevin O’Connor, who played his 500th game for Brentford in the win over Stevenage on Saturday, from Brentford FC owner Matthew Benham
More from the Play of the Year Ball will follow on www.brentfordfc.co.uk this week.
Full coverage of the presentations will be on Bees Player later this week.
