Brentford midfield player Toumani Diagouraga extends Portsmouth loan with agreement for 24-hour recall clause
Brentford midfield player Toumani Diagouraga has extended his loan at Sky Bet League Two Portsmouth for the rest of the 2013/14 season.
However, the agreement also includes a clause that Brentford can recall him at 24 hours’ notice if he is required.
The 26-year-old central midfielder signed the extension this afternoon and will stay with Pompey for the remainder of the campaign.
Toumani was named as Portsmouth captain for their League Two defeat against Fleetwood Town on Saturday, March 15.
He has played six games for them so far – they have won one, drawn three and lost two.
Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Manager, said: “Toumani remains a very important member of the Brentford squad.
“It is vitally important that we can call on players that are match fit if we need to.
“We have two high quality players pushing for places in midfield – Toumani and Jake Reeves – and it is imperative they get as much pitch time as possible.
“They both need to stay fit.
“Toumani is doing very well at Portsmouth and as and when we need him, we will bring him back.”
Toumani completed a permanent move to Griffin Park in the summer of 2010 after a successful loan spell.
He born in Paris to Malian parents but signed for Watford’s Academy and then turned professional with The Hornets but made only six appearances for Watford before moving to Hereford United in the summer of 2008 after helping The Bulls to promotion the previous season during a year-long loan spell.
Peterborough United signed him in 2009 for an undisclosed fee but he was allowed to join Brentford on loan for the second half of the 2009/10 campaign.
He made that move permanent for an undisclosed fee and soon established himself in the centre of The Bees’ midfield.
Toumani has now played more than 150 games for The Bees in all competitions.
He has played 17 games for Brentford this season, 11 of them from the start, and 12 Sky Bet League One matches, seven from the start.
