Defender puts pen to paper on first professional deal at Griffin Park
Defender Lionel Stone has signed a contract to be part of the Development Squad at Brentford Football Club.
Lionel, 18, completed his two-year scholarship at the end of the 2013/14 season and was offered a professional deal.
He signed a one-year contract at Griffin Park earlier today.
Lionel, who has caps for Scotland at Under-17 level, has primarily played in the centre of defence over the past few years, having started out as a centre forward.
He was part of the Brentford Team that reached the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round in 2011/12 when he was in the Under-16 squad.
He has suffered with injury over the past two seasons but played six Youth Team games in 2013/14, scoring twice, and six games for the Development Squad.
Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “Lionel has developed as a player over the past three years with us, despite a few injury problems.
“He has the potential to be a good ball-playing central defender.
“Our hope is that he can beat those injuries, stay fit and continue his development.
“We will do all we can to help him become a player capable of playing for Brentford in The Championship and he has to work to get to that level.
“We would not have offered him a deal if we didn’t think he could do it.”
