Brentford Development Squad midfield player Joe Maloney agrees to extend stay at Griffin Park for another year

Brentford Development Squad midfield player Joe Maloney has signed a new one-year contract.

It is the second professional deal for the midfield man, as he signed his first contract late in 2013.

The midfield player has been with the Club from a young age and signed a two-year scholarship in the summer of 2011.

He had two injury hit years and was given an extension to his scholarship to take him to October 2013 before he signed professional forms.

He has now agreed to stay for a further 12 months.

The 19-year-old played 11 Under-21 Professional Development League Two South games for the Development Squad in 2013/14, scoring a fantastic goal in a victory over Cardiff City at Griffin Park.

Joe is also taking his coaching badges and his contract will include some work as a coach with younger players in the Academy.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “I am pleased that Joe has signed his new deal.

“He has started working with our younger age groups as a coach and that work will continue as part of this new contract.

“I am sure we can help him develop both as a player and a coach in the next 12 months.

“As I have said before, the policy now is to only offer contracts to players that we believe could play for Brentford in The Championship.

“We are not signing players just so we can fulfil our Development Squad fixtures, there are young players coming through who can play in those games and aid their own development.

“Joe has had a very good start to his professional career, both on and off the field.

“I look forward to working with him in the next year.”

Joe spoke to Bees Player after signing his contract; subscribers can see an interview with the young midfield player soon.
