Managerial prize for Mark Warburton

5 December 2014

Brentford boss Mark Warburton picks up Manager of the Month award

Brentford Manager Mark Warburton has been named Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for November.
The Bees won their five Championship matches last month – recording successive victories over Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Millwall, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The five wins saw The Bees climb from 13th in the Championship to third, just a point off the top.
Mark has been Brentford Manager for just under a year and this is his second Manager of the Month nomination.
He won the Sky Bet League One award for December 2013, his first month in charge, and was also nominated in January and March of this year.
Brentford’s perfect November – 15 points from five games, including a win over league leaders Derby and the first success against West London rivals Fulham for more than 15 years, 14 goals scored, five conceded and ten league places climbed – earned Mark the award ahead of fellow nominees Neil Lennon, of Bolton Wanderers, Mick McCarthy, of Ipswich Town, and Gary Rowett, of Birmingham City.
The judging panel – comprising former Norwich City and Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton, Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery – chose Mark as the winner.
Hughton, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: “For a team that won promotion last season Brentford have made a fantastic start to the new campaign.
“To record five straight wins in the Sky Bet Championship is a wonderful achievement and Mark Warburton is thoroughly deserving of this award.”
Goodman said: “Brentford continue to impress in their first season in the second tier for 21 years.
“Securing their fifth straight Championship win with a 4-0 demolition job of Wolves, Warburton will be dreaming of a repeat of last season’s promotion heroics.”
Lowery added: “For me there was no other contender for this month’s award. Brentford have been breath-taking under Warburton during November.
“They averaged nearly three goals a game and obliged on five straight occasions for backers on our goal frenzy coupon, where teams can be backed to score two or more in a match.
“The Bees are now 4/1 to achieve promotion, having been 11/1 at the start of the season.”
