Andre takes player prize

5 December 2014

Brentford striker Andre Gray named Player of the Month

Brentford striker Andre Gray has been named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for November.
Andre scored five goals and assisted two more as Brentford won all five of their Championship matches in November.
Brentford’s five wins – against Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Millwall, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers – saw them climb from 13th in the Championship to third, just a point off the top.
Andre had gone eight without a goal before firing home against Derby at the start of November.
He scored and was fouled for a penalty in a win at Forest four days later before scoring two and setting up the third in a win at Millwall at the end of the same week.
Andre also scored in the 4-0 win over Wolves last Saturday to take his tally for the season to eight since joining from Luton Town in the summer.
The judging panel – comprising Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery – chose Andre ahead of fellow nominees Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede, Leeds United midfield player Alex Mowatt and Birmingham City goalkeeper Darren Randolph.
Goodman said: “Gray’s goals have been pivotal in Brentford’s recent run, with the centre-forward running defenders ragged throughout the month.
“Mark Warburton believes he has the talent to make the step up to the Premier League.
“Who are we to disagree?”
Lowery said: “The pick of the bunch during an excellent month for Brentford.
“The former Luton striker was something of a gamble when The Bees signed him, but seven goals in 18 league games this season has repaid that trust.
“Gray is among the top scorers in the division and is five behind Britt Assombalonga’s total of 12.
“Gray is 25/1 with Sky Bet to be the Championship top scorer this season.”
