Blackpool v Brentford

19 August 2014

Bees win at Bloomfield Road

Brentford came from behind to get their first win of the Sky Bet Championship season, against Blackpool.

The Bees headed to the North West coast for their third game of the league campaign and fell behind early on.

But Alex Pritchard equalised for the visitors and Stuart Dallas scored the winner in the second half.

The Bees had to withstand some Blackpool pressure but deserved the 2-1 win and the points overall.

The game had a good flow very early on.

Both teams looked to attack and although Brentford’s style meant they had the better of posession, Blackpool were dangerous going forward.

The home side had the early chances – Tony Craig blocked an Ishmael Miller shot and from the resulting corner Donervon Daniels headed wide from a good position.

James Tarkowski was then called in to action to block a Tomasz Cywka shot and John Lundstram lashed wide from distance.

Brentford had plenty of territory in the early stages without creating many chances.

Their first real sight of goal came when a Jonathan Douglas pass released Nick Proschwitz in behind but he was crowded out by the home defence and Joe Lewis saved at the striker’s feet.

The Bees were starting to gain the upper hand in the game forcing last-ditch clearances and blocks but 17 minutes in, they fell behind.

The visitors failed to clear their lines and François Zoko picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area, he measured a cross for Nathan Delfouneso and his header was powerful, well directed and beat David Button at the far post.

Blackpool grew in confidence after taking the lead and went looking for more goals.

Button saved a low Lundstram shot and then held on to a Cywka free kick at the second attempt.

After weathering a little storm, The Bees started to control the midfield, with Pritchard to the fore.

Dallas sliced a shot from a half cleared free kick and Moses Odubajo had an effort blocked.

Brentford got the goal they deserved eight minutes before the break.

After a spell of posession Alan Judge fed Odubajo and the ball was played inside smartly to Pritchard, he turned and fired a shot unerringly in to the bottom corner.

Pritchard had another shot saved soon after as Brentford pressed but Blackpool ended the first half well.

Button had to rush out to save at the feet of Miller and Craig made a vital block when the same man got in behind on to a Zoko pass.

The home side had the momentum going in to the break but Brentford came out of the traps quickly in the second half.

Pritchard fired an early free kick in to a defensive wall and eight minutes after half time The Bees were in front.

Dallas conjured it almost out of nothing, out-muscling Daniels close to the by-line and cutting inside before placing a shot out of the reach of Lewis and in to the top corner.

Blackpool responded well to going behind, immediately seeking an equaliser.

David Perkins fired over from distance and Button saved a curling shot from Tony McMahon.

Substitute Edu Oriol fired wide, a Zoko effort was blocked and Lundstram missed the target with a horribly sliced effort.

Jota, on his Brentford debut, had a couple of chances to make the game safe.

The Spaniard fired across the face of goal after a fine run down the right and then blazed high and wide from 25 yards.

But Blackpool were finishing the game strongly, and looked the team most likely to get the fourth goal.

Button saved a shot from Edu Oriol and then made a fine block when Sergei Zenjov got on to a Nile Ranger knock down.

Lundstram also shot wide from distance as the home side pressed but Judge came close at the other end, curling over from 20 yards.

Delfouneso fired over and The Bees had to defend in numbers at the death but Brentford had done enough to take the points.
