Bees sign Fulham striker on loan until January

Brentford Football Club have signed striker Marcello Trotta from Fulham for the first half of the 2013/14 season.

The Italian Under-19 international will be making his second loan move to TW8 after spending six months at Griffin Park last season.

He played a key role in Brentford’s push for automatic promotion in 2012/13, scoring six goals in 22 League One appearances, six of which were as a substitute.

In total he scored nine goals in 29 games for The Bees last season and ended the campaign as third top scorer.

He will return to Griffin Park on loan until January 5.

Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said: “It is human nature to think that the glass is half empty and maybe remembering the things which weren’t working out.

“I remember he joined us on November 24 and he then played every single game for us when we were unbeaten in ten and won seven out of ten.

“That was due to Marcello coming into the team at the right time and giving us a big lift.

“He is still very young and he learned a lot last year.”

Uwe hailed Marcello for the way he responded to hitting the crossbar with a stoppage penalty against Doncaster Rovers on the final day of last season when a goal would have taken Brentford up.

He said: “I think the mental strength he showed to come back after Doncaster and give a performance like he did against Swindon [Town in the Play-Offs], was something I couldn’t have done when I was 30.

“The mental strength he showed to go out and play like he did was fantastic.”

Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Sporting Director, said: “You have to look at what we have already got.

“Marcello is a player who creates half a yard in the box, has a good goal scoring record and links play up well.

“He is a boy that we know that the squad know and that the fans know.

“I thought last year he showed tremendous courage and character and we are delighted to be welcoming him back.”

Marcello joined Fulham as a 16-year-old in 2009 having been on the books of Napoli and Manchester City as a youngster.

The 20-year-old turned professional in the summer of 2011 and joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan later that year.

He scored eight goals in eight games for The Chairboys and earned a Fulham debut after returning to Craven Cottage.

Marcello, who has also been on loan at Watford, has made three substitute appearances for Fulham.

Uwe Rösler and Mark Warburton both spoke to Bees Player about Brentford’s transfer deadline day – see interviews with the pair soon.
