JOAO READY FOR MEN'S FOOTBALL

11 September 2013

New loan signing "sharp and fit to play"

Joao Carlos Teixeira said he has come to Brentford to try and improve his game and help The Bees towards the top of League One.

The 20-year-old midfield player joined Brentford on loan from Liverpool yesterday.

He will remain at Griffin Park until January 5.

Joao joined Liverpool from Portuguese giants Sporting Clube de Portugal, better known as Sporting Lisbon, in January 2012.

The attacking midfield player has been part of the Under-21 set up at Anfield since his arrival and made 20 appearances in the new Barclays Under-21 Premier League last season, scoring two goals.

Joao, who has represented Portugal at Under-19 and Under-20 level, played for Sporting in the NextGen Series, the Under-19 tournament for the Academy teams at some of Europe’s top clubs, against Liverpool before joining The Reds.

He said he was at the stage of his career where he needed to play men’s football.

“I am here and trying to help the team,” said Joao, speaking to Bees Player yesterday.

“I want to do my best and I hope I can improve too.

“My time at Liverpool has been great.

“I had a back injury at the start but now I am fine and fit to play.

“I have been playing Under-21 football and now I need something else.

“I think I can find it at Brentford.

“Under-21 football is good but I need men’s football.

“I am trying to play First Team games.

“I have spoken to the Manager and the Sporting Director, they are nice people, really friendly and I am trying to help.”

Joao trained with Brentford yesterday and said he was fit and ready to play.

He said he had spoken to his Liverpool team mates about life on loan in the lower leagues and thought he would enjoy it.

“I am a good passer of the ball and technical,” he said.

“I play in attacking midfield and try to score goals.

“Training today was hard.

“I have been in Portugal for three days but I am fit and I feel alright to play.

“I am sharp and fit to play.

“I spoke with some of the players at Liverpool about going out on loan and I think I will be fine.

“I think I will like playing in League One.”

Brentford’s next match is the Sky Bet League One game against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

Joao said his friends, family and colleagues could come and watch the game, being played on Merseyside, and he was looking forward to it.

“Some people from the Club can come and watch me,” said the midfield man.

“And some of my friends from up there can see it too.

“I am looking forward to it.”
