DEVELOPMENT SQUAD AS IT HAPPENED

16 September 2013

All the action live as The Bees took on Brighton & Hove Albion at Lancing FC

Full-Time - A point is probably fair for The Bees who led the game thanks to Mawson's early header before being pegged back on the stroke of half-time from the spot. Both sides had chances to win the game in the second-half and The Bees will be indebted to two excellent stops from O'Brien to earn their point.
90 mins - Brighton are finishing well and O'Brien parries Muitt's long range effort. It comes straight out to Harris but he volleys wide from 15 yards with a chance to win the game.
89 mins - For all his pantomime villain acting of the first-half Dickinson nearly scores a sensational individual effort. With Pierre and Nugent both forward he picks the ball up midway inside his own half and breaks forward. He skips past Hayes challenge before turning Mawson and running free. However O'Brien gets out quickly to make a fine block save and deflect the ball away for a corner.
85 mins - Norris passes up a great chance to give The Bees a late lead as Barclay's slip lets him in. He bears down on goal but shoots straight at Smith, perhaps expecting the keeper to make an early move.
84 mins - The Seagulls with their final change as Charlie Harris comes on for Deen.
79 mins - A spell of Brighton pressure is ended as Nugent hammers the ball out of the ground for a throw in level with the box on The Seagulls right which comes to nothing. James Muitt is also on the pitch as a replacement for Davis.
77 mins - Will Collar comes on to replace Lall, with Barry going across to left-back.
74 mins - Not quite sure how that is not a penalty to The Bees. Norris beats the offside trap and as he shapes to pull the trigger from 12 yards Barclay flies in and takes a lot of Norris and none of the ball. The Bees striker ends up in a heap on the floor while the referee remains unmoved.
68 mins - I had barely finished typing as Norris puts in his own contender for biggest miss of the season. He breaks behind Lall from a through header from Hayes and hits the bouncing ball over the bar from 12 yards. Although it didn't have the height of Dickinson's effort it went further and ended up in the garden of a house at least five houses away from the goal.
67 mins - Tonight has seen a contender for save of the season and it has now seen a contender for most off target shot of the season. Dickinson pops up on the right wing cuts inside before hitting a shot from 25 yards which clears the 30 foot netting behind the goal and the row of houses behind the goal.
64 mins - Aspas' debut comes to an end with Charlie Adams coming on to replace him.
59 mins - Brighton have had the upper hand at the start of the second-half but again on the break The Bees go close. Dallas takes down a raking cross field ball well and plays a neat 1-2 with Hayes before seeing his shot deflect just over the ball from the edge of the box. Before the corner can be taken Smith is having some treatment on the line. When it does come in it is worked out to Aspas who sees his low drive deflected up and over the bar for another corner from which Pierre heads over at the back post.
55 mins - How on earth has O'Brien saved that! Pierre completely shanks a clearance from a corner and it whistles towards The Bees goal but from nowhere O'Brien fires up a hand and turns it behind for another corner. A quite incredible save!
53 mins - Clarke is dispossessed on the right wing and Brighton spring the counter. The ball is switched to their right and Brad Barry and Dickinson combine well before Barry's effort is watched over the bar by O'Brien.
50 mins - A bit of panic stations at the back for Brighton as Norris' ball is missed by Barclay and a breakdown in communications sees Lall hammer the ball out from a throw-in with Smith waiting to pick it up.
47 mins - Brentford are on the front foot already this half and Clarke's pace earns The Bees a corner. Dallas's delivery has been threatening all night and this is no exception as Nugent flicks the ball inches wide of the back post.

We are back out here at Lancing with neither side having made a change at the break.

Half-Time  - The sides go in level at the break but it is The Bees who will feel they could and should be ahead. While Brighton have dominated possession The Bees have had all of the best chances forcing Smith into a number of smart saves. Brighton's only effort of any real note being the penalty from Richards which has leveled the game.
45 mins - Dallas beats his man with ease and delivers a ball into the box which Hayes flicks on forcing Dylan Lall to nod behind for a corner with Clarke closing in. The corner skims off Mawson's head and out of the box prompting the referee to call time on the half.
41 mins - PENALTY TO BRIGHTON
Brighton & Hove Albion 1 (Courtney Richards pen) Brentford 1
Pierre brings Dickinson down by the by-line on left hand side. From the free-kick Norris is adjudged to have pulled back Ben Barclay. The referee points to the spot and Richards fires high to O'Brien's left and into the back of the net.
38 mins - That should be 2-0 to Brentford. Pierre muscles Deen off the ball with ease before clearing to Dallas. The ball is then worked from right to left through Aspas and Clarke before his cut back is screwed wide from the penalty spot by Hayes.
34 mins - Tyrell Miller-Rodney who has been everywhere in midfield is the latest to be denied by Smith. After he breaks through the middle from a Norris lay-off Smith is down smartly to turn his placed effort behind for another corner. From Dallas' delivery Mawson heads back across goal but Nugent fouls his man trying to get on the knockdown.
31 mins - Despite The Bees having a clear height advantage they are nearly hit from a set-piece. Ben Barclay throws himself at the ball before Deen turns the bouncing ball goal-bound from eight yards but Aspas is on the line to knock the ball to safety.
29 mins - Brighton are having more of the game in midfield but The Bees are having all of the chances. Ben Nugent goes close from a Dallas corner.
24 mins - Liam O'Brien is called into action finally as he has to dive at the feet of Deen  as the striker looked to turn home Jesse Starkey's right-wing cross.
22 mins - Hayes nearly catches Smith and most of the crowd napping with an audacious effort from 30 yards which flies just wide.
20 mins - Dickinson has done a Di Canio. Upset at the close attention which Calvet has been giving him he is called over by the referee for continuing dissent with The Bees preparing a throw in. The throw comes in and he bundles Norris to the ground which earns him a yellow card from a referee clearly annoyed his continuing dissent.
16 mins - Aspas checks onto his left foot and plays a lovely ball to release Calvet from right-back. The French Youth International beats his man and finds Norris but his shot is charged down by Glen Rea and goes out for a throw in. Clavet wins the ball back and is fouled in the process. Dallas wastes the set-piece hitting it straight into the arms of Smith.
13 mins - Calvet breaks up a spell of Brighton pressure and a raking pass by Mawson frees Dallas who has now popped up on the left. His cross is headed just wide by Norris from 12 yards.
9 mins - Brentford 1 (Alfie Mawson) Brighton & Hove Albion 0
After the opening five minutes it has been all Bees and they are deservedly ahead. Pierre's cross is turned behind and Dallas's corner lands perfectly on the head of Alfie Mawson who, from six yards, plants his header back across Smith and into the far corner.
6 mins - The home side have settled quicker but The Bees nearly score an excellent break-away goal. Raphael Calvet gets a toe in to win the ball on half-way before freeing Stuart Dallas on the right. The Northern-Irishman rides a wild lunge from Brennan Dickerson to find Paul Hayes level with the right-hand edge of the box. Hayes pulls the ball back and Dallas sees his effort from the edge of the box excellent palmed behind by Grant Smith. From the resulting corner Smith pulls off an even better save, plunging low to his left to turn Pierre's flicked effort away.
Kick Off - Brighton have an effort inside the first minute. From the kick off The Bees give the ball away and John Aspas commits the foul. Courtney Richards chips the free-kick into the box and Robbie Deen swivels and fires wide from 18 yards.

The two sides are lead out onto the pitch by captains Courtney Richards and Aaron Pierre.
The Bees in their traditional red and white stripes, black shorts and black socks with The Seagulls in Blue and White striped shirts, blue shorts and white socks.
There is a good crowd here tonight numbering around 300.
Brentford will kick from left to right as we are looking.

Good evening and welcome to a chilly Culver Road, home of Lancing FC and the Sussex FA, as Brentford's Development Squad take on their counter-parts from the South Coast in the U21 Professional Development League Two South.
The Indian Summer appears to be well and truly over and the wind here has a bitter chill.
Tonight is a meeting between two unbeaten sides both of whom came close to making the end of season Play-Offs last season with Brighton finishing a place and two points better off than the 4th placed Bees.
The Seagulls look to have carried that form into this campaign with victories over Swansea City, Ipswich Town and Queens Park Rangers.
