Development Squad youngsters put pen to paper
Young players Josh Clarke and Aaron Pierre were at Griffin Park today to sign new professional contracts.
The pair were three of six members of Brentford Football Club’s successful Development Squad offered new contracts this summer.
They have put pen to paper to confirm they will be staying at Griffin Park.
Charlie Adams, Tyrell Miller-Rodney and Luke Norris signed their new contracts on Tuesday while Antonio German has turned down his offer of a new deal.
Aaron Pierre, who joined The Bees in the summer of 2011, has signed a new one year deal.
Josh Clarke has just completed the second year of a two-year scholarship and played for the Development Squad in 2012/13 as he was too old for the Youth Team.
He has signed a one-year professional contract to be part of the Development Squad for 2013/14.
The Development Squad will be looking to repeat the success of last season when they finished fourth in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South standings in the first season of the new league.
Aaron played 19 Professional Development League games in the centre of Brentford’s defence and also made his First Team debut in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Southend United.
The 20-year-old was an unused substitute in four further First Team games.
Winger Josh, 18, played 17 games in the Professional Development League last term, scoring once.
Development Squad Manager Jon De Souza, speaking to Bees Player at the end of last season, said: “I feel all the players we have offered contracts to have a chance of playing in the First Team.
“As good as the season has been in terms of results and performances, we are here to produce players for the First Team.
“I haven’t signed players for the Development Squad; I have signed them because I think they can play for the First Team.”
Josh and Aaron spoke to Bees Player after completing the paperwork – see interviews with the pair soon.
