Bees win first pre-season game.

Brentford won their first pre-season friendly of 2013 by three goals to nil against German side FC Einheit Rudolstadt with goals from Clayton Donaldson, George Saville and Paul Hayes.

FC Einheit Rudolstadt made Brentford work for their victory, and it was only two goals in a sixty second spell late in the second half that killed them off.

Uwe Rösler gave everybody that travelled to Germany a run out, except Kevin O’Connor and Simon Moore.

Kevin was taken ill earlier in the day, so Harlee Dean took the captain’s armband for the evening and Simon Moore gave way to Daniel Müller so Uwe and the coaching staff could take a look at him in a competitive environment.

There was even time for a cameo for 46-year-old Assistant Manager Alan Kernaghan, who replaced Aaron Pierre with 25 minutes to go.

A crowd of around 200 saw the visitors kick-off at a later than advertised local time of 6.30pm.

Brentford took the lead in the 25th minute when Clayton Donaldson capitalised on a mistake in the Rudolstadt defence from a Stuart Dallas cross to score the opening goal of the 2013 German Tour.

Until that point the hosts had created the greater chances, with Manny Oyeleke clearing one effort off the line with six minutes gone.

At the half-time break, Rösler made ten changes, and reverted from 4-4-2 to three at the back, with Toumani sitting just in front of the defence.

Aaron Pierre’s header on 54 minutes went close, with Paul Hayes getting a good opportunity to double the lead a minute later but his shot was well saved by the Rudolstadt goalkeeper.

Good chances for Saunders, Saville and Forshaw came before Brentford scored their second goal in the 84th minute.

George Saville rose above the Rudolstadt defence to head home from a corner kick, the ball nestling nicely in the corner.

A minute later it was three, Paul Hayes was put through by Saville; the referee playing a smart advantage after the on-loan Chelsea midfielder was fouled just outside the box.

Moments before the final whistle there was time for Sam Saunders to crack the bar twice in twenty seconds from a free-kick and shot before the referee blew for time.

First half line-up: Bonham; Oyeleke, Dean, Pierre, Bidwell; Dallas, Reeves, McCormack, Fillo; Donaldson, El Alagui.

Second half line-up: Müller; Logan, Craig, Pierre (sub Kernaghan 65 mins); Diagouraga; Saunders, Saville, Forshaw, Adams; Grigg, Hayes.
