Brentford have reached a landmark agreement with Chelsea to bring their newly-formed under-21 side to Griffin Park for this coming season.

Chelsea will compete in the inaugural Under-21 Barclays Premier Development League that has replaced reserve team football at the highest level.

The Blues will play a designated number of 2012/2013 fixtures at Brentford, with two at Stamford Bridge.

Five matches have been currently scheduled for Griffin Park with more to follow later in the season.

Chelsea will get their campaign off to a start with an attractive opener against Manchester City on August 17, kick-off 7pm.

The new under-21 competition is for academies designated as category one under the new Elite Player Performance Plan rules and are to be played in stadiums - not behind closed doors.

Clubs are permitted to field three over-age outfield players and an over-age goalkeeper in their matchday squad.

It will mark a return of The Blues to Brentford, as their reserve team played at Griffin Park from 2007 to 2010.

Brentford FC Chief Executive Mark Delvin said: "'We are pleased to be able to host this next season.

"It is testament to the hard work during the summer of the Brentford Groundstaff and investment in the playing surface that Chelsea enquired about the possibility of using Griffin Park.

"The agreement is mutually beneficial and provides an excellent additional source of revenue for Brentford"

The scheduled fixtures at Griffin Park for the first half of the season are as follows (all 7pm kick-offs):

Friday, August 17 Manchester City

Friday, September 14 Liverpool

Friday, September 28 Middlesbrough

Monday, November 12 Crystal Palace

Monday, November 26 Fulham

Chelsea's home fixture with Fulham is subject to Brentford's involvement in the FA Cup Second Round fixture on December 1 2012.

Admission prices are £3 for adults and £1 for juniors.
