Brentford’s penultimate pre-season friendly at Basingstoke Town on Saturday ends in a comprehensive 5-1 victory.
Uwe Rösler selected a strong line-up - in a diamond formation - club captain Kevin O’Connor starting in midfield with Logan and Weston acting as wing backs.
Development squad players Leon Redwood, Alfie Mawson, Manny Oyeleke, Luke Norris and 16-year-old scholar Michael Onovwigun were given a place on the bench.
Basingstoke Town, who lost 1-0 to Brentford FA Cup match last November, selected Ashley Bayes in goal, the ex-Bee now entering his 25th year in senior football.
With Brentford being dominant from the start it was a surprise that their first attack was in the 16th minute, Clayton Donaldson hitting the cross bar from the edge of the penalty area.
Donaldson again fired close four minutes later but his shot was wide of Bayes’ left-hand post.
However, Basingstoke striker Tim Sills almost caused Simon Moore embarrassment in the 26th minute as he charged down the Bees goalkeeper’s clearance.
Luck was on Moore's side as the ball landed to Harlee Dean and safety.
A minute later Weston’s left-wing cross hit the post and he tried his luck from 25 yards on the half hour mark, the ball whizzing narrowly over the bar.
But it was to be midfielder Jonathan Douglas that gave Brentford the lead in the 34th minute.
The Irishman seized on Clayton Donaldson’s goaline run and pull back; rifling the ball into the top right hand corner.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 40th minute, Tony Craig getting the last touch on a Sam Saunders long range free-kick awarded for a foul on Clayton Donaldson.
Seconds before the half ended Donaldson had a glorious chance to make it three as he ran through with just Bayes to beat but his shot was blocked.
Basingstoke made a handful of changes at the break but Rösler chose to stick with the starting eleven.
Brentford increased their lead in the 52nd minute; Donaldson following up to head in from three yards out after Weston’s fierce left foot shot was tipped onto the post by Bayes.
Basingstoke seemed out of it at that stage but four minutes later they were awarded a penalty for handball by Leon Legge.
Substitute Wes Daly tucked the ball narrowly under Simon Moore’s body.
The game went flat immediately after but Brentford’s fourth goal arrived in the 72nd minute.
Sam Saunders pinched possession from a Town attack, and released Farid El-Alagui, who waited for his moment and slipped the ball eight yards from goal through substitute goalkeeper Joe McDonnell legs and into the net.
Three minutes later it was five, El-Alagui again the goalscorer.
Clayton Donaldon’s right-wing cross was perfectly met by the Morrocan who headed home from five yards out to complete the scoring.
