Brentford Women’s FC had a Sunday to forget as both the First-Team and Development Team were soundly beaten on the opening Greater London Women’s Football League matchday
In Division One, Justin Ali and Nathan Mobey’s Bees were on the end of a 5-1 reversal at newly-promoted Leyton Orient WFC Development. It was the home side who started the better and raced into a 2-0 lead on Hackney Marshes. Last season’s top-scorer Shannon Read converted Gel Burgess’ through ball to pull one back but the hosts re-established a two-goal lead before the interval.
After the break, Orient put the game to bed with a fine free-kick to make it 4-1 before adding gloss to the score-line with a fifth late on. The Bees have no fixture next weekend so return to action in a fortnight’s time at home to AFC Phoenix Reserves.
There was also a sobering start to life after promotion for the Development Team in Division Two North as they were beaten 7-0 at home by Tower Hamlets WFC. Natalie Keating was The Bees tormentor in chief, netting a hat-trick, as the East London side returned home with the points. Will Blithing’s side have a chance to bounce back next Sunday as they travel to Lord Halsbury Playing Fields to take on Larkspur Rovers, kick-off 1pm.
