Brentford Women 4 Kingstonian 1

Second-half show extends Bees winning run

16 October 2017

Brentford Women climbed to third in the Greater London Women's Football League Division One table after a 4-1 victory over Kingstonian at Lampton School on Sunday.

In what was a cagey opening first half, Craig Brown’s side were frustrated not to have opened the scoring with the best effort falling to Sinae Prendergast, who was unable to convert a good chance while Rhia Benjamin placed her close range effort over the bar.

The dominant Bees got the goal their play deserved ten minutes after the restart: Carmela Garcia, making her first start, was fouled inside the Kingstonian half and up stepped Jennifer Amols Brett to fire home from all of 40 yards. The lead lasted just three minutes as Kingstonian caught Brentford off guard from a corner and headed in past Naomi Swift in the Bees goal.

Brentford retook the lead just seven minutes later when Lisa Grant was fouled inside the box and Mollie Holmes cooly stepped up to tuck away the spot kick, notching in her fourth goal in two games. Jodie Reid added the all-important third goal shortly after as her left-wing cross deceived the visiting goalkeeper and found the back of the net.

Captain Grant scored the fourth with a fine solo effort which ensured The Bees took the points and extended their unbeaten run to three games. A home fixture against top of the table New London Lionesses is up next as Brown's side look to extend their impressive unbeaten run.

It wasn't such a good afternoon for Brentford Development as they were beaten 6-0 by higher division opponents Balham Panthers in their cup fixture on Sunday afternoon. Michelle Keating scored four and Maria Chalcraft came off the bench to net the other two in the comfortable win. The Bees return to Division Three North action next Sunday with a trip to Wanstead Flats to take on East London Ladies.
