Devs put thirteen beyond Upton Park

Ladies bounce back with huge win

27 September 2020

After suffering a narrow defeat on the Hackney Marshes last week, the ladies were eager to bounce back as they returned to East London to play Upton Park Ladies at the West Ham Foundation.

Park were forced into an early change when one of their players had to come off after suffering an injury in the warm-up and thought it would calm down during the game. The Bees added to the early woes when Kasey Clifford scored a long-range effort to start things off.

It wasn’t long before Nadia Jaffa was squeezing home the second, nipping in at the near post and getting it just past the keeper. It was three just a few minutes later, Jasmine Williamson scoring her second in as many games, latching on to a neat pass from Shannon Read before beating the onrushing stopper.

Good work from Eniola Idowu opened up space for Williamson to turn provider when her square ball was smashed home emphatically by Read. The striker then returned the favour by slipping a through pass beyond the keeper for Williamson to add her second virtually on the goal-line.

It was 5-0 at the break, which did little to praise the excellent goalkeeping on display in the home end. Without her, it might have been double figures before the referee signalled an end to the first 45.

The sixth came just after the break, chaos in the penalty area leading to Pia Williams’ swiping at a shot as the ball bounced loose at the far post. It found the target. The home side had their chances as time went on, winning a lot of first balls on their way to several shots on target.

At the other end, it was target practice for the clinical Bees side. Sian Bah crossed the ball for Rabia Azam to head home the seventh, then assisted again with a cut-back for Williamson to slot home her hat-trick goal.

Williamson then pounced on a mistake at the back, as if Park weren’t in enough trouble, and passed to Clifford. She then fired the ball into the bottom corner for the ninth. Clifford then had her own hat-trick as a second long-range strike found the top corner of the net, leaving the keeper with absolutely no chance.

Idowu was rewarded for her hard work when she hit a 35-yarder beyond the goalie, Brentford relentless as they pushed the score to eleven. A neat one-two on the edge of the box between Paige James-Wright and Read allowed the latter to dink home her second of the day.

It was finished off just before the final whistle. James-Wright forced a fine save from the keeper, only for Bah to sweep home the rebound and complete a 13-0 demolition of Upton Park.
