Women's B Team record Cup win

Capital Junior Cup victory for Bees

21 January 2022

Brentford FC Women's B Team booked themselves a place into the quarter-final of the Capital Junior Cup as they won with a clean sheet on Sunday. The Bees beat Ashford Town B 4-0 to reach the last eight.

Both teams started strong and were looking to play solid football. The first big chance of the game went Brentford’s way, as Chloe Logie played the ball beyond the Ashford defence and Cheyenne Faulkner lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper but it went over the crossbar.

Brentford took the lead through a Chloe Logie penalty at the 34th minute. A nice interlinking passing move felt to Eleonora Cottrell. Cottrell played the ball out wide with the outside of her boot, and Calli Weaver whipped into the box before Logie was bundled over. Logie slotted the penalty away.

Ashford was quick to respond a few minutes later, as a through ball fell to Ashford’s number 14 who stuck a powerful shot which Sophie Boycott pushed onto the crossbar and out for a corner. Brentford tightened up at the back and scored a second just before half time. Brentford played their way out from the defensive third where the ball found Charlotte Halpin, the Ashford keeper was off her line and Halpin lobbed the keeper with a perfect strike.

Logie added her second just after halftime. Logie’s first shot was initially saved by the Ashford keepers feet but she tapped home the rebound, giving Brentford the three-goal lead.

The scoreline did not deter Ashford as they were still causing a few problems but Boycott was alert to the danger. Tensions rose when Cara Graham made a fantastic goal-line clearance after an Ashford player poked the ball underneath Boycott but Graham somehow kept the ball out.

The Ashford right-back was sent off for dissent towards one of the coaching staff putting them down to 10 players with 25 minutes left. Shortly after, the Ashford goalkeeper was then sin-binned for dissent towards the referee.

This put Brentford in total control of the game and they were looking to add more but were unable to find that final pass. The Bees were able to add a fourth through Cottrell, when a ball was played through to Logie which the keeper pushed into Cottrell’s path, and she then tapped home from close range.
