Match Preview: Aldershot Town v Brentford B

Young Bees in action today

14 August 2021

Brentford B head to Foxbury Avenue this afternoon in a 1pm kick-off where they will face National League side Aldershot Town.

The young Bees, who are on a positive run of form of late as they return to full fitness, will go into the match following a win over Southend United and an impressive performance in their 1-1 draw with a strong Crystal Palace XI.

The match against Town was originally scheduled to take place at the EBB Stadium, however it will now take place at Glebe FC.

The Opponents

The Shots are preparing for another campaign in the National League and the match with Brentford will be the side’s last fixture to fine tune their preparations. Recent results have seen the side beat Sutton United whilst they drew with Haringey Borough and beat Slough Town 2-1 in pre-season.

Danny Searle’s men get their season under way on Saturday 21 August when they welcome Chesterfield in a 3pm kick-off. Shortly after that, they travel to Boreham Wood before hosting Yeovil Town to close out the month.

Tickets are available on the day of the game at the turnstiles.

Young Bees beaten by Shots

17 August 2021

Brentford B were beaten 2-0 by National League side Aldershot Town on Saturday afternoon at Foxbury Avenue.

The young Bees conceded two first half goals, and despite showing glimpses of good moments, they were unable to get themselves back into the game.

It was a game where Brentford B started relatively brightly with some good passages of play and they threatened when a Lachlan Brook free-kick found Gustav Mogensen but his header was saved by the Town keeper.

A few minutes later, Nathan Shepperd was forced into his first save when he pushed away a powerful effort, whilst Giles Phillips shot wide of goal.

As the half wore on the National League side began to push forward as they provided a real aerial challenge for the young Bees to deal with. James Harris crashed an effort off the post before Jake Andrews got in behind the back line but couldn’t keep his effort on target.

The opening goal came on 26 minutes when Brentford B were dispossessed in defence and Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong put the side ahead with a composed finish.

Neil MacFarlane’s group almost got themselves level when good work down the right from Wraynel Hercules saw him cut the ball back for Brook to shoot low, but once again the attempt was saved.

Eight minutes before the break Aldershot got their second as play down the right saw the ball crossed low for Andrews to slot home from just a couple of yards out as Brentford B went into the break with an uphill challenge.

There were fewer chances after the break with Aldershot content with their two-goal lead. Though Brentford B looked to get on the ball more and make things happen there was perhaps a lack of execution rather than spirit in the group.

A really good moment came just before the hour mark which could well have changed the rhythm of the match as a Dom Jefferies cross found substitute Nathan Young-Coombes unmarked, but his glancing header edged just wide.

15 minutes from time Shepperd saved well from an Aldershot free-kick as the match finished 2-0.
