Brentford B lost 1-0 to Notre Dame Men's Soccer at Jersey Road on Saturday morning. The Indiana-based University side scored a first-half goal and then hung on for the win in stormy conditions at the Brentford FC Training Ground.
Lars Friis made five changes to the side that beat Ipswich Town in the week, Chiedozie Ogbene and Joe Hardy among the names dropping out of the starting XI.
It took half an hour for the away side to get their winner. Goalkeeper Simon Andersson dwelled slightly too long on the ball and a Notre Dame forward managed to block his clearance into the net.
Jonny Mitchell was shown a yellow card shortly after for a late challenge near the halfway line, the Scottish defender unhappy with a similar challenge on himself moments earlier.
After 52 minutes, the Americans could have had a second when they used the wind for a long range effort that looped over Andersson. It crashed against the post and back into the keeper's arms.
Soon after, at the other end, Gustav Mogensen was brought down on the edge of the box. Henrik Johansson struck the following free-kick over the wall and it dipped narrowly wide of the target.
Minutes later The Bees saw Jan Zamburek's low shot saved by the goalkeeper. The follow-up from Johansson was cleared off the line by a defender.
Both sides had a goal ruled out for offside in the second period. The away goal came from a deep free-kick that saw a header loop into the net from inside the box. The assistant referee had raised his flag as the ball came in.
The Brentford goal chalked off came from Joe Hardy after 65 minutes. A through ball down the right found him in space beyond the back line and he finished neatly under the keeper. Once again the flag was up on the far side, Hardy drifting off in the build up.
