Joe Hardy, Ali Coote, and Gustav Mogensen all struck this afternoon as Brentford B beat an Ipswich Town Academy XI 3-1 on a wild and windy afternoon in East Anglia.
It took Lars Friis' side just five minutes to open the scoring though Joe Hardy; the B Team top scorer slotting home following a neat corner routine. Ipswich were handed a way back into the game shortly after as Simon Andersson picked up a Kolbeinn Finnsson backpass. However, the Swedish stopper made a good save from the resulting free-kick to atone for his error.
Andersson was called into action again on the quarter hour to deny an on-rushing Ipswich attacker but there was little he could do midway through the half to prevent The Tractor Boys levelling. Confusion in the Brentford backline presented the easiest of chances inside the box for the home side to level.
Parity for the hosts lasted just four minutes as Brentford retook the lead through Ali Coote; the midfielder controlling a fine ball in from Cole Dasilva with his first touch and converting into the bottom left corner with his second.
That goal seemed to open the game up in The Bees' favour and they created a number of good chances to extend their advantage before the break. Hardy and Jan Zamburek were both denied by the home keeper while Jonny Mitchell sent the final effort of the half fizzing wide from distance.
The pattern after the break was similar with Friis' side the ones setting the tempo. Hardy was unable to force home a loose ball from close range before Fredrik Hammar saw an effort from outside the box well dealt with by the Ipswich stopper.
The home keeper continued to repel whatever The Bees could throw at him until his, and Ipswich's resistance, was eventually broken with four minutes to play. January signing Mogensen netting his first goal after good work in the build-up from Jayden Onen.
