Match Report: Brentford B 3-4 Malmo

Bees defeated in seven-goal thriller at Griffin Park

5 March 2019

Brentford B lost narrowly to Malmo FF at Griffin Park on Tuesday night under the lights.

Brentford enjoyed early spells of possession in the first-half but it was Malmo with the first effort on target, just a whisker above the crossbar.

Marcus Forss then tested Malmo with a strike just outside the box but it was comfortably saved by the keeper. Malmo took lead against the run of play through Carlos Strandberg, with a low finish past Simon Andersson.

The Swedish were awarded a penalty just before half-time. But Strandbergs’s effort was saved Andersson, low to his left. The Bees played well and were unfortunate to be 1-0 down in the opening half.

Malmo extended their lead in the second half after Strandberg backheeled his effort inside the box past Andersson. The striker then completed his hat-trick after being played through inside the box and slotting the ball in the bottom left-hand corner in the 53rd minute.

Brentford pulled a goal back after clever play inside the box allowed Emiliano Marcondes to slot the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1. Brentford began their comeback as Cole Dasilva got Brentford another goal to make it 2-3 inside the box just before the 70th minute mark.

Josh Dasilva slammed the crossbar with a great effort from a free-kick outside the box which forced a dive from the keeper. Malmo thought they put the game to bed when they got a fourth goal through Adi Nalic after an unfortunate goalkeeping mistake from Andersson in the 74th minute.

Brentford had other ideas though as two minutes later, Josh Dasilva made it 4-3 on the night with a low finish through a crowd of players after a superb corner. Despite The Bees' best efforts, Malmo held out to get the win in the friendly at Griffin Park.

Speaking to us after the game, goalkeeper Andersson said: "It was a tough game, but the team stood up well and worked hard the whole game." He explained that the team didn’t get the result they wanted but he said that it was a very good experience to play against a team who played in the Europa league against Chelsea. He felt that the team should have had a penalty in first half which could have changed how the game had panned out had they scored it.

The B team next go up against New York City U19 at Jersey Road on 10 March but won’t play at Griffin Park until 16 April when they face up against Harrow Borough in the Middlesex Senior Cup Final.
