Match Preview: RB Salzburg vs Brentford B

Bees go for second Italian tour game against Austrian opposition

8 December 2018

This afternoon, Brentford B will take on a youth team from Red Bull Salzburg in Northern Italy.

The second squad started their tour of the Mediterranean country with a win, after needing a late goal to overcome Brescia Calcio U21s in Coccaglio. Joe Hardy netted twice that day, taking his season tally to 17, while David Titov continued his rich form in front of goal with another strike. Icelandic Under-21 international Kolbeinn Finnsson also struck his fourth goal of the campaign on Wednesday evening.

Jaakko Oksanen is the only B Team player missing from the squad after suffering an injury against Met Police FC in the London FA Cup. Matej Majka was a doubt ahead of the first game but managed to make the bench, this time he'll be hoping to get some minutes against The Bulls.

RB are from the Austrian Bundesliga and play their home games at Red Bull Arena. The Club was rebranded in 2005 from SV Austria Salzburg after being bought by Red Bull GmbH. Before the switch, the Club played in an all-violet strip but that has now been replaced by red and white. Founded in 1933, the team won its first domestic league title in 1994, reaching the UEFA Cup Final that same year.

Hardy and Dasilva on target for Bees in Mezzolombardo

8 December 2018

Brentford B drew 2-2 with Red Bull Salzburg Under-19s on Saturday afternoon in Mezzolombardo, an Italian village in the shadow of the mountainous Adamello Brenta National Park.

Joe Hardy netted once again for the B squad and his strike was added to by Cole Dasilva's free-kick in the second half. The Bulls drew level in the dying minutes of the game, some sloppy defending allowing the Austrians a way back into the game.

About halfway between Salzburg and Coccaglio, the village that Brentford B are staying in this week, the two sides met at the Stadio B. De Varda. Kevin O'Connor recalled Charlie Oliver to the back four, shifting Canice Carroll into midfield and dropping Jonny Mitchell to the bench. Apart from that the side was unchanged.

Salzburg took the lead after 37 minutes when Junior Adamu broke clear down the left wing, evading a challenge by Nikolaj Kirk. He clipped a neat ball back to the edge of the penalty area, where Alex Prass took a touch before drilling it into the net.

Joe Hardy got Brentford back on level terms after an hour of play. Dasilva had a hand in this goal too, providing the cross from a free-kick on the left wing that found Hardy in the box. The striker brought the ball down on his chest before rifling it under goalkeeper Kilian Schrocker.

Then The Bees were in the lead thanks to another Dasilva free-kick, this time directly into the net. David Titov was fouled inside the box by a Bulls defender only for the referee to award a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. It didn't matter, Dasilva bending his shot over the wall and into the top right corner to make it 2-1.

With four minutes of time to play, Salzburg equalised. A deep cross from the left was met by Adamu, who had peeled away from Dasilva and managed to nod home his second of the game.
