Brentford B lost 4-0 to a strong Luton Town XI at Venue360 on Monday afternoon. Jake Jervis netted a hat-trick before Aaron Jarvis added another in the second half.
In sweltering conditions, The Hatters deployed a team made up entirely of First Team players against Kevin O'Connor's side. While The Bees made use of Josh Clarke, Chiedozie Ogbene and Marcus Forss.
There was an early chance for The Bees, who dominated the opening 20 minutes. Ogbene stepped over a ball from the right, allowing Kolbeinn Finnsson a clear shot on goal. The ball ricocheted off Lloyd Jones and fizzed wide of the target.
A long ball from the keeper then had Ogbene through one-on-one. A push in the back sent him tumbling to the ground but he got up quickly and squared for Forss. The striker hit it first time low to the left of the goal, James Shea got across quickly to parry the ball away.
After 17 minutes, Luton took the lead against the run of play. A ball from Luke Gambin cut open Brentford at the back and Jervis was given clear air to run into. He bolted into the box before firing the ball low into the bottom left corner of the net.
Four minutes later, the home side had been given a penalty when Jaakko Oksanen brought down Jervis on his way into the box. The striker dusted himself off to send his spot-kick into the same corner of the goal.
Luton took control of the game as time went on, Jarvis the next player to get an effort in. This time Jervis almost turned provider when his cross was nodded over by his partner up top.
After the break, the team in orange could have had another just five minutes after the restart. Andrew Shinnie looped a free-kick into the penalty area but Glen Rea could only divert his header north of the crossbar.
Jack Senior was next up from left-back, cutting inside and unleashing a swerving effort with his right foot. The trialist goalkeeper withstood the test and palmed the ball out of danger.
With 20 minutes to play, Jervis completed his hat-trick. Another penalty, this time being chopped down by Luka Racic after coasting past the youngster on the edge of the box. Once again, he stepped up to convert the kick, this time into the other corner.
A few minutes later, Brentford might have had one back. Josh Clarke crossed for Racic to head inches over the bar from close range. Shea screaming at his defence for allowing the Dane so much free space in the penalty area.
Frankie Musonda almost added a fourth after 75 minutes. A free header from a corner kick, he nodded it at goal but it was saved well by the goalkeeper.
The following corner was met by Sonny Bradley and then volleyed at goal from close range. Once again the keeper was up to the test and got his body in the way of the effort from just a couple of yards out.
He could do very little about the fourth goal. Left stranded by his defence, Bradley crossed from the left and Jarvis was there to head it home into the right side of the net.
