Match Report: Genoa B 1-6 Brentford B

Bees back to winning ways on Italian soil

5 April 2019

Brentford B swept aside their Italian opposition this afternoon as Genoa B were beaten 6-1 at their youth training base. A trio of braces from Jaden Brissett, Kolbeinn Finnsson and Joe Hardy wrapped things up for The Bees in a game that was played in three thirds of 30 minutes, instead of the usual two 45 slots.

The opening goal came from the aftermath of a corner kick. Genoa winger Levante Szabo cleared it out of the box and seemingly away from danger, however it fell nicely to Finnsson. The Iceland international struck it low and hard, the ball breezing through a crowd of players, and it found the net.

The hosts were straight down the other end to level things. Szabo was the hero this time, sweeping home a low cross from Denilson. Goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson got his hands to the ball but couldn't divert it wide enough.

Brentford went ahead a second time when Finnsson struck a spectacular second. Collecting a quick throw-in from Henrik Johansson, the Icelandic midfielder turned inside and struck the ball at goal. It went high and looped over everyone, dropping in just inside the post to make it 2-1.

The second period of time brought the third goal. Cole Dasilva turned on the style from left fullback, clipping a first-time pass to Finnsson. The midfielder knocked it on to Brissett and the winger did the rest. He raced towards goal, cutting in on his right foot and then curling it high into the net close to the right post. His first goal for The Bees.

It didn't take long for a second to come along. This time the ball came from the right, Matej Majka drilling a cross low into his path. The shot was hit first-time, straight into the bottom corner of the net to make it 4-1.

In the final half hour, substitute Hardy added his two strikes.

The first came from another Majka assist. Johansson burst down the pitch and slipped it wide to the Czech winger. Majka dropped inside Andrea Adamoli and squared for Hardy to smash in via the palms of sub keeper Thomas Montaldo.

The sixth was put in with five minutes to go. Hardy again in the right place at the right time, on this occasion running onto a ball into the box to slot beyond Montaldo and seal an emphatic win for The Bees.
