First Teamers make comeback in Jersey Road stalemate

10 October 2017

Brentford B and Exeter City played out goalless draw at Jersey Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Kevin O'Connor had a number of First Team players at his disposal with Luke Daniels, Josh McEachran, Lewis Macleod, John Egan and Lasse Vibe all named in a strong-looking starting XI.

It was Brentford who started the brighter at Jersey Road; Zain Westbrooke pulling the strings in a midfield three alongside McEachran and Macleod.

Following a cagey opening Mads Bech Sorensen's long ball almost released Herson Alves with ten minutes on the clock, but James Hamon advanced well to gather.

Some positive running saw Alves through on goal again midway through the half but the linesman had his flag up before the Portuguese midfielder could pull the trigger.

Exeter created their first chance of note on the half-hour mark; Archie Collins forcing a good stop from Daniels after Jordan Storey had headed a looping ball back across the face of goal.

The Grecians carved out another opportunity moments later as Matt Jay slid across Daniels and wide of the far post.

The game sparked into life by the closing stages of the first period; Lewis Macleod testing Hamon twice in quick succession before McEachran's cross dropped narrowly wide of the far post.

Egan connected with Chatzitheodoridis' cross during the dying embers in what proved to be the last action of the half.

Bradley Clayton flashed across goal as The Bees flew out the traps following the interval. Next it was the visitors turn to threaten; Jack Sparkes nodding Jay's header the wrong side of Daniels' left-hand post.

Brentford had a great chance to break the deadlock just after the hour mark but Joe Hardy couldn't quite re-direct a low pull-back past Hamon. Clayton jinked his way past Hartridge during the next phase of play, forcing Hamon into a low stop as The Bees piled on the pressure.

There was still time for Hardy to lift over the crossbar before the referee called time on a frustrating afternoon at Jersey Road. Brentford landed plenty of punches but couldn’t deliver the knockout blow.
