Match Preview: Brentford B vs Wolves U23

Bees play penultimate fixture of 2017 at Jersey Road tomorrow

13 December 2017

Brentford B vs Wolverhampton Wanderers U23. Jersey Road, 11:30am.

Kevin O'Connor's B Team host Wolverhampton Wanderers U23 at Jersey Road tomorrow at 11:30am. The Bees are looking to get their second win in succession after what will be their seventh home game of the year.

Last time out, Brentford B completed a 3-2 win over Barnet U23. Alan Judge made a scoring return to action and Marcus Forss got himself a brace at the North Londoners' Hive training ground. Forss, now on 10 goals in 17 appearances, appeared on the bench during the First Team's 0-0 draw with Hull City on Saturday.

Raphael Assibey-Mensah made his 50th B Team appearance against Barnet last Tuesday, while Ilias Chatzitheodoridis clocked up number 48. Forss notched his ninth and tenth goals of the season in the match with the other Bees.

The same fixture last season ended in a 4-1 win to Brentford on 5 January. Danny Parish got a double, while Nathan Fox and Herson Rodrigues Alves added to the scoreline.

Alves is still recovering from a knock that has kept him out of the last four matches. Henrik Johansson and Reece Cole are also still on the way back from their own injuries and will be missing from the squad.

Match Report: Bees 2 Wolves 1

Alves and Hardy on target for Kevin O'Connor's side

14 December 2017

Brentford B beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Jersey Road on Thursday afternoon. Joe Hardy and Herson Rodrigues Alves scored the goals as Ellery Balcombe saved a penalty in the second half.

Alan Judge started his second B Team match in as many weeks, getting 71 minutes under his belt on his way back to fitness. Ilias Chatzitheodoridis also continued his role at left-back after appearing in recent First Team match squads.

The first real opening was worked by The Bees. Bradley Clayton played the ball to Theo Archibald and the Scottish winger put his shot just wide after cutting in from the left.

After 10 minutes, Brentford gave away a free-kick right on the edge of their own box when Nikolaj Kirk was judged to have brought down a Wolves forward. The kick was blocked by the wall and then Jarvis Edobor got out quickly to prevent a follow up.

Joe Hardy went close with 18 minutes gone. A low cross from David Titov found him in the box, he turned and struck the ball but the keeper managed to palm it away.

Archibald did the same after 26 minutes, this time after a ball worked through the middle. Kirk played it up to Hardy, who flicked it on to Archibald. The 19-year-old then got it out of his feet and shot, the goalkeeper once again able to save it.

Brentford took the lead through Hardy just before half-time. A corner from Judge was finished at the near post, the striker's eighth goal of the season.

At half-time, Reece Cole and Herson Alves were introduced after both of them recently returned from knocks.

They were involved straight away, Cole finding Alves on the right. Exchanging a one-two with Hardy, Alves shot at goal but it was turned away at the last moment by the Wolves keeper.

Wolves were awarded a penalty when Titov brought someone down in the area after 56 minutes. Ellery Balcombe was up to the task though, diving to his left to parry the kick to safety.

Brentford then got their second. Cole flicked a ball over the top for Alves. The Portuguese winger touched it past his marker and then tucked it into the bottom left corner.

With only four minutes left, Wolves snatched a goal back. Cole's attempted pass out from the back was blocked, it rolled to an attacker and Balcombe couldn't reach the finish.

The away side applied extra pressure in the final stages but it was Brentford that had the last chance. Archibald knocked the ball down the line, Alves crossed it in for Clayton. The striker turned on the spot and struck at goal but it was cleared off the line.

Brentford B: Balcombe; Titov (sub Novak 75 mins), Edobor, Sørensen, Chatzitheodoridis; Kirk (sub Cole 45 mins), Judge (sub Kirk 71 mins), Clayton; Novak (sub Alves 45 mins), Hardy (sub Assibey-Mensah 75 mins), Archibald
