Match Preview: Brentford B vs Manchester City

Bees to play Citizens at Jersey Road

18 December 2017

Brentford B entertain Manchester City in the squad's final fixture of 2017 at Jersey Road tomorrow afternoon.

The Bees are chasing a third win on the bounce after beating Wolves 2-1 at home last Thursday. Herson Rodrigues Alves and Joe Hardy were on the score sheet as Kevin O'Connor's side also had Ellery Balcombe to thank for a saving a penalty in the 56th minute.

Alan Judge continued his return from injury by getting 71 minutes, adding to his 45 at Barnet recently, and could get even more on the pitch this week. Alves made a goalscoring return to action by getting the second half against Wolves, while Reece Cole also played 45 in that encounter.

Balcombe made his 20th appearance of the season last match, getting back into the team after missing the previous two games. David Titov made his 16th start on Thursday, a major improvement after having only made seven sub apps last term.

Bradley Clayton became the first B Team player to get over 2,000 minutes for Kevin O'Connor's side when he captained the side last week. Meanwhile, Joe Hardy scored his eighth goal of the year against Wolves, taking him level with Theo Archibald and both are two behind Marcus Forss on ten.

Citizens mount late comeback at Jersey Road

19 December 2017

Brentford B drew 2-2 with Manchester City at Jersey Road on Tuesday afternoon. Theo Archibald and Marcus Forss scored the goals as Kevin O'Connor's side were pegged back in the final few minutes to draw the game.

It took six minutes for Brentford to take the lead. Archibald darted into the box before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper and it dropped into the net at the far post.

City went close after 18 minutes, turning a low cross narrowly wide at the far post.

Just before the break, the away side went really close again. A low shot was tipped onto the post by Ellery Balcombe, then the follow up was put wide under heavy pressure from Mads Bech Sorensen.

Forss got his 11th goal of the season after 54 minutes, getting on the end of a good ball over the top.

After an hour, Forss had a low shot saved wide. Then just moments later, the Finnish striker hit the post with a header and it rebounded wide.

Sub Raphael Assibey-Mensah then came on and was in action almost straight away. He got past two defenders then the keeper and slid the ball towards goal. It was cleared on the line at the last second.

Archibald then could have made it three from close range, but couldn't make enough of a connection to get it inside the post. It flew inches wide.

Then, on the 85th minute, City mounted a two-goal comeback. First, scoring a breakaway chance that was put in at the far post.

Just seconds later, after a controversial decision to play on, Man City found the equaliser. Overloading the box, they got a man over and managed to tuck the ball home.
