Brentford B beat Orlando Pirates 4-1 in a behind closed doors friendly this afternoon. Joe Hardy and Reece Cole both scored twice as Orlando managed a consolation before half time.
This was the B Team's penultimate fixture of the 2016/17 campaign, with Manchester City's visit to Griffin Park looming on the horizon.
Kevin O'Connor's side took the lead after nine minutes, Hardy nodding in a corner from Cole at the far post. Orando equaised shortly afterwards, scoring an almost identical goal to their hosts; a long corner kick that was converted powerfully at the back stick.
Hardy's second came five minutes before half time. Zain Westbrooke clipped a neat ball through to Hardy, who laid it off to Jan Novak on the right side. Novak's following low cross was straight to Hardy, who shot but saw it saved by a combination of defender and goalkeeper. His rebound was placed out of their reach and found the bottom corner from close range.
Cole then added the home side's third from a set piece on the edge of the box. Cleverly worked between the two midfielders, Westbrooke knocked the ball back for Cole to flick up and volley into the top corner.
Brentford's fourth came when Marc Rio rounded the goalkeeper and looked destined to score before he was taken down by the keeper's trailing arm. Cole took the spot-kick and scored on his second attempt after the penalty itself was saved.
The B Team's match with Man City is now just seven days away. Kicking off at 7pm, the game is free to come and watch. You can read a preview from Head Coach Kevin O'Connor and Analyst Ben Chadwick here.
