Yaw Agyei, a dynamic midfielder who combines composure and flair, joined Brentford on a two-year scholarship, with the club holding an option for a one-year professional contract.

Prior to signing with the Bees, Yaw honed his skills at Northampton’s Pro Direct Academy, where he began shaping his game around two of his footballing idols—Thiago Alcântara and Andrés Iniesta.

Yaw’s football journey started with Sunday league football in Year 8, continuing through a showcase team and a brief break in Year 11 before attending football college. His proudest footballing moment to date was signing with Brentford, fulfilling a childhood dream that began with one of his earliest memories—watching the 2010 World Cup in the background at his old house.

On the pitch, Yaw’s teammates describe his playing style as relaxed, composed, and full of flair, and his footballing philosophy is centred around technical brilliance, much like his idols. His calm, creative presence in midfield has made him a key asset to Brentford’s B Team. He’s particularly proud of a memorable last-minute equaliser that took his team to the semi-final of a local cup, eventually leading to a showdown with Peterborough United in the final.

In his dream five-a-side team, Yaw would feature alongside legends Neymar, Zidane, Ndombele, Pogba, and Neuer. Before matches, he gets pumped up by listening to Oh No by Black Sherif, while his initiation song would be the ever-popular Wonderwall by Oasis.

Yaw has made significant strides during his time at Brentford, with his most treasured moment being the league title win with the U18s. Reflecting on his development at the club, Yaw credits Brentford for providing him with the "blueprint" to grow into a professional footballer. Training alongside the first team at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre has helped refine both his mental and physical approach to the game.

This season, Yaw is focused on getting as much game time as possible and improving his tactical awareness. He believes his versatility—being able to contribute both in attack and defence—will make him a valuable asset for Brentford in the future. Guided by the influence of his former coach, Lewis Ison, Yaw is set on leaving his mark at the club and taking his game to the next level.
