Sophie Troth has been a versatile and hardworking player for the club since she joined just before her 16th birthday. A calm presence on the pitch, her leadership and determination have made her a key figure in the team for over a decade.
Starting her football journey at the age of 11 with QPR, Sophie moved on to Watford at 13 before finding her home at Brentford FC. Now nearly 27, Sophie’s loyalty to the club has never wavered. She has enjoyed many proud moments, including captaining Brentford’s first-ever game at Gtech Community Stadium, where she led the team to victory in front of more than 5,000 fans. Scoring at Griffin Park and seeing her name on the back of supporters’ shirts are memories she cherishes deeply.
Off the pitch, Sophie is a secondary school PE teacher, where she serves as a role model for the next generation of athletes. Her work as a teacher helps her cultivate leadership skills and influence, both in the classroom and on the football field. The ability to guide and inspire others is a quality Sophie brings to every match, and it reflects her commitment to helping young people grow, whether they are in her class or on the pitch.
One of her personal goals for this season is to contribute with as many goals and assists as possible, while her overarching ambition for the team is to secure promotion and win as many cups as they can. For Sophie, being part of Brentford FC is more than just playing football—it’s being part of a family. She’s passionate about representing the club and playing in front of the loyal fans who turn out each week to support them.
Her advice to young girls pursuing football is simple yet powerful: “Never give up.” Sophie believes that hard work and belief in one’s own abilities can overcome any doubts others may cast. Her own journey is a testament to this mindset.
Looking to the future, Sophie sees women’s football continuing to grow in popularity, with more fans, coverage, and success on the horizon. She envisions Brentford FC continuing to promote their women’s teams and provide fantastic opportunities. Whether playing or supporting when she eventually retires, Sophie is committed to promoting the game and contributing to the ongoing success of both Brentford and women’s football as a whole.
