Saman Ghoddos joined Brentford in September 2020, initially on loan, from French side Amiens.

That move was made permanent the following January and, four months later, he was part of the side that achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history following a 2-0 Championship play-off final win against Swansea City at Wembley Stadium.

Ghoddos made 47 appearances in his debut campaign in TW8, including in that famous victory against the Swans under the Wembley arch and in both legs of the play-off semi-final success against Bournemouth.

The versatile midfielder or attacker made 32 top-flight appearances across the following two terms as Thomas Frank’s side established themselves in the toughest division in world football.

Following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, the club announced that Ghoddos would depart TW8 that summer, but he re-signed for the Bees that August, penning a one-year deal.

That autumn, he became just the second Brentford player to win the Premier League Goal of the Month award - after Ivan Toney picked up the gong for his effort against Leeds United in September 2022 - for a sumptuous long-range strike in a 3-0 win against Burnley at Gtech Community Stadium.

When Ghoddos left west London for good at the end of 2023/24 season, he did so with a record of six goals and nine assists in 108 games across all competitions.

On confirming Ghoddos would leave the club, director of football Phil Giles said: “Saman is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in football, he’s always positive and makes a fantastic contribution at training and around the squad every day.

“It was an easy decision to bring him back last summer and he has completely justified that decision.”

Born in Malmö, Sweden, he made two appearances for his country of birth before switching international allegiances to Iran, who he represented at both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, the latter while on the books at Brentford. He is also heading to the 2026 World Cup in America.
