Club Captain Pontus Jansson started out as a professional in Swedish football with Malmö FF.

His youth career got started at Arlövs BI before the move to Malmö aged 15. His senior debut came as a centre-forward in the Allsvenskan in 2009.

Switching partially to centre-back in 2010, Jansson played 18 games on the way to winning the top division. Despite breaking into Malmö's 2011 European squad, his breakthrough season actually came in 2012. He played all 30 league games and became one of their most important players during the 2013 title-winning campaign, his second trophy. The third would come the following season, even though he only completed a third of the games on the way to another league victory.

He moved to Serie A side Torino in July 2014. He made 16 appearances in his first season in northern Italy, including six games in the UEFA Europa League. His first Serie A goal came against Udinese in April 2016, the first in a 5-1 win.

A lack of game time lead to a loan spell at Leeds United, which included a clause to make the move permanent. That was triggered just six months into his time at Elland Road, during which he established himself as a key part of the back line. In his first English season he was named in both the EFL and Championship Team of the Season.

He was named captain of the side going forward, also signing a five-year contract at the club. The 2017/18 season saw Leeds finish 13th before appointing Marcelo Bielsa as Head Coach.

Bielsa described Pontus as the 'best player' in the Leeds squad on their way to a third-place finish. Their Play-Off campaign was ended in the Semi-Finals with a defeat to Derby County.

In July 2019, he joined Brentford on a three-year contract and became club captain under Thomas Frank. His first season would also see disappointment in the Championship Play-Offs, this time a 2-1 Final defeat to Fulham at Wembley.

The following year, he would lead his team to Premier League promotion after a 2-0 win over Swansea City on 29 May 2021. He then played in Brentford's 2-0 win over Arsenal on the opening day of the club's first top-flight campaign in 74 years.
