Yoane Wissa couldn’t hide his delight after our 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

A second-half substitute, the DR Congo international headed home our equalising goal in the 88th minute – nine minutes after his introduction from the bench.

“I missed many chances in the last few games,” said Yoane. “It’s tough when you start on the bench, but when you come on you have to be aware. I’m happy for the first goal because the first one is always tough. Now I need to keep pushing and hopefully more will come.

“I don’t remember much about it, honestly! I saw Vitaly [Janelt] made the cross and I just thought about being on the last line but not being offside.

“I thought in my head, ‘I have to score’. I knew when the ball came in that if I headed the ball that way, it would be tough for the ‘keeper. I’m happy with the goal.

There was an agonising wait while Yoane’s goal was checked by VAR for a possible offside, but the forward was in no doubt that his header would stand.

“Honestly, I knew I wasn’t offside. I was very calm and when they said ‘goal’, everyone was very happy!”

Yoane’s late goal sparked wild celebrations in the away end.

“The fans don’t stop singing and that’s very helpful for everyone,” Yoane responded when asked about the impact of the Bees travelling support.

“When I scored, they sung my song. I think they love me and I love them too. I want to give them goals, assists and wins.”
