Head Coach Thomas Frank spoke to us after Brentford beat Colchester United 2-0 in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Keane Lewis-Potter and Mads Bech scored a goal in each half as we held back a spirited home display from the League Two side. Thomas was full of praise for the opposition as he spoke to us after the final whistle at the Jobserve Community Stadium in Essex.

"Huge praise for Colchester," said Thomas. "I think they were definitely set up for a very good cup performance and they made it difficult for us. In the first 30 minutes, up until the goal, we dominated without creating chance after chance. We had one big chance for Shandon, where of course he should score.

"Then the first goal is a beautiful one. It's a pass to the opposite pocket to Shandon, a little bit on the half-turn it's a perfect pass to Keane in behind. One-nil goal, fantastic.

"We started the second half very well in the first 10-15 minutes. We should have scored, we had some very dangerous situations where we produced chances. Then we didn't, and we know this is a game where everything can happen.

"They put pressure on us, they played a bit more direct and invested a few more players forward. We managed to handle it and in the end we did the job. The good thing is, it's a clear win but full credit to Colchester."

Thomas also gave us an update on Mads Roerslev, who needed to be subbed with an ankle issue after a tackle on the right wing.

"Hopefully he is okay," said Thomas. "I think it was a very hard tackle. He should be fine, we will know more tomorrow."

There was also a debut for B Team midfielder Ryan Trevitt, who replaced Lewis-Potter for the final 20 minutes of the game. His journey from B Team trialist to First Team debutant has impressed Thomas.

"The B Team deserve a lot of praise here," he said. "And also everyone involved with the team. He came to the club as a talent but he wasn't the best one in the dressing room. With good development and a top mentality from Ryan, I'm really pleased with his progress.

"He was with us for the whole of pre-season, came on the pre-season camp. He was a standout player in the Arsenal friendly. He's kept impressing in the B Team as well, being one of the top two players in each game he plays. Then, I think he came on tonight and played like a pro. It would have been fantastic if he got that goal when he hit the bar but he deserves a lot of praise."
