Speaking after the full-time whistle at the City Ground, Bryan Mbeumo labelled Brentford’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest ‘a frustrating result’.
The Bees fell behind in the 20th minute after Morgan Gibbs-White’s shot from just outside the area deflected off Ben Mee and beyond David Raya.
But it was Mbeumo who spearheaded the comeback, scoring from the spot on the brink of half-time.
Yoane Wissa, who was brought down by Dean Henderson for the penalty after latching on to Mbeumo’s through ball, put the Bees in front with 15 minutes left on the clock, but Zanka’s own goal deep into stoppage time earned the hosts a share of the spoils.
“I think we played a very good game,” said Mbeumo.
“We knew it would be a tough game today.
“We went 1-0 down, we managed to come back to make it 2-1, then we defended with heart.
“We let too many crosses in at the end and we conceded. It’s a frustrating result.
“It’s always hard when you play away. When you are above them in score it’s hard because the fans are crying and behind them for them to push more.”
Reflecting on his penalty, a composed finish that sent Forest ‘keeper Henderson the wrong way, Mbeumo said: “It’s always tough to take a penalty because the opponents want to add pressure and make you wait as long as possible. You have to focus and do what you can do to score.”
