Thomas Frank stated that our 2-1 away victory at Premier League champions Manchester City is the 'single, biggest result' in Brentford Football Club history.

Ivan Toney’s 98th-minute winner secured all three points for the Bees at the Etihad Stadium, and Frank insisted it was always his plan to come to a team he described as ‘probably the best in the world’ and go for the win.

He said: “I was actually speechless in the dressing room. I had to say some nice things to the players but that was [wow]...

“I would like to say, we came here with the aim to try and win the game. We never go into any game to try and minimise the defeat and we massively believed that [we could get a result].

“The players know what I said before the game, we then had half-time, there was a late equaliser in the first half, we could be a little bit disappointed.

“Then I said, ‘Guys, you're never going to have a bigger chance of winning at the Etihad than today’, because we just felt we were on top of the game.

“I know we defended a lot, but the performance we put out here... maybe it's the one, single biggest result in the Club’s history. Not the most important one - that was others, the Play-Off final was another one.

"But a single result, against probably the best team in the world, they played their strongest line-up today, we are missing four players, the difference in budget is crazy, and then we perform and won, well-deserved, that is amazing.”

He added: “We were very brave today. Of course, we tweaked it a little bit, I would have preferred to keep the ball a bit more!

“But we needed to look into their strengths and our strengths, how we can win the game, and that's why we made the gameplan as we did today. This was perfect, well-run, and the players did fantastic to perform the gameplan.”

Toney scored twice in Manchester to help secure the victory, which takes his tally to ten for the season, and his head coach said that it showed just how impressive his character is, after the striker missed out on a spot in England's World Cup squad earlier this week.

Frank joked: “Ivan could have had four goals today, by the way - I think I need to be after him, it wasn’t a good enough performance!”

But he added: “I think it shows how strong a character he is and how strong a mentality he has. After a big disappointment of not going to the World Cup, you’re defined by how you actually get back up after you get a knock or a hit.

“That's how you’re defined as a person, and what a response [from Toney] today.”
