Ivan Toney couldn’t hide his delight after Brentford’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The striker netted his ninth and tenth goals of the Premier League season as the Bees ended City’s 16-game winning run on home soil.

“The boys dug in and worked hard and, personally, I felt that we fully deserved the three points,” he said.

“It’s crazy to say that against a team like Man City.

“At half-time me and the gaffer [Thomas Frank] spoke to each other and we said that we wanted to win. Of course we wanted to win.

“I said ‘we will win’ and he kind of looked at me like I was crazy!

“Yeah, they’re Man City, but they’re humans - you can’t respect them too much because they’ll walk all over you and take it all.

“We showed them no respect today, we worked hard and fully deserved the three points. Little Brentford came here and got a result and we deserved that.”

Toney got Brentford’s first goal on 16 minutes, flicking home Ben Mee’s looping header.

“We work on second balls,” he said, “we have to be ready for second balls against a team like Man City.

“There are chances there, especially with the players we have attacking the ball.

"We have Ben, Ethan [Pinnock], Zanka. We just have to gamble. It paid off. If I put my head in the way, I’ll have a chance to score. I did, thankfully.”

Phil Foden equalised in first-half stoppage time. De Bruyne’s corner was flicked through to Foden by Manuel Akanji and he rifled a shot across Raya and into the top corner.

With a point looking the most likely result, Toney took centre stage again with his late, late winner giving Brentford a first away success of the Premier League campaign.

Toney praised team-mate Josh Dasilva for his involvement in the goal.

“Josh, when he’s one on one, you’ve just got to make a run because he’ll find you.

“No one is better than him in beating a man like that. You have to gamble and be in the middle of the goal.

“Everybody played their part. Even the subs that came on - Josh set up the winner. Everyone put themselves on the line and worked hard for the three points.”

The striker was also full of praise for the Brentford supporters, who had a perfect view of his stoppage-time winner.

“They travelled all the way from London to here, so we had to give them something to go home with, right?

"They can all enjoy a drink tonight. It’s my job to put the ball in the back of the net, and it’s their job to go crazy and get behind us! They definitely did that today.”
