Head Coach Thomas Frank gave us an update on the squad heading into this weekend’s opening Premier League fixture against Leicester City.
He was speaking to members of the media at his first pre-match press conference of the 2022/23 season, hosted at Jersey Road.
Thomas said: “As I mentioned after the Betis game, Kris Ajer is out with a hamstring injury but is aiming to be back from mid-to-late August. With Ethan, he has a knee injury, we don’t want to put a timeframe on that one so he is just out at this moment in time.
“Sergi Canós is out with a hamstring injury and is looking at a similar return date as Kristoffer, mid-to-late August. Everyone else is fit, available and looking forward to playing.”
With the transfer window still open, Thomas was asked about incomings and outgoings.
"We are definitely still in the market," he said. "We are still out there searching. I am satisfied overall with the squad, I think we have the number of players we need in each position. Can we get that key player for the right price with the right abilities? We are definitely open to that but it's not that we need to get a player in any specific position.
"You might see one or two still potentially leave but that depends on if we get more people in, how the squad is developing and how many injuries we get. That will be discussed more in the coming weeks."
Over the summer, several new rules have come into play; five substitutions can be made per game during the 2022/23 season. These can be made on three occasions, a stipulation designed to prevent major disruption to the flow of the game.
On the rule change, Thomas said: “I love it. We voted for it. I think it’s the right thing. I think it gives us tactical flexibility. I’m definitely thinking a lot about how I can use it enough. That’s my plan at least, let’s see how it goes. It will probably get to Sunday and I’ll make two subs in the 85th minute!”
