Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt cut a disappointed figure following the Bees’ 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Thomas Frank’s side held a narrow lead as the clock ticked into second-half stoppage-time, but substitute Scott McTominay struck twice in five minutes to complete a dramatic comeback for the home side.

“We played a very good game, and at 90 minutes we were leading at Old Trafford. Then, in five minutes, they turn around the game and win 2-1," said Janelt.

“We have to finish a counter or a set-piece to make it 2-0; that’s the only thing I would say we can do better.

“It’s nice to have a good performance but obviously we want the points. Sometimes I don’t care if we play s***t, as long as we get three points. We can turn it around together.”

Janelt has been an ever-present for Brentford this season - starting 10 straight games in all competitions - and is pleased with how his understanding with fellow midfielders Christian Nørgaard and Mathias Jensen is developing.

“We have a good relationship, especially this season,” he said.

“Before I was a bit higher, now I’m with Christian [Nørgaard] as one of the two sixes during the build-up and I can join late in the box. I think I’m good at this and I enjoy it.

“We normally play a 4-3-3 in the build-up, trying to control the game a bit more with Christian and me and then Mathi a bit higher. If he scores every game, we’ll be happy with that.”
