Brentford head coach Thomas Frank stated that, despite being disappointed to lose 1-0 to Liverpool on Saturday, he was pleased with his side's performance.

A first-half goal from Mohamed Salah split the two teams, and the Bees boss was satisfied with the problems that the west Londoners caused the hosts at Anfield.

"In many ways, it was a good performance,” Frank began.

“It’s always disappointing to lose and I know this business is black and white, it is about winning, but to get to a stage where you can have these more consistent performances [is great].

"If you compare the two performances from last year to this year, it’s a different level.

“Today, I think we pressed really well throughout the game, the high pressure was really good in many situations and we caused Liverpool a lot of problems.

“With a bit more quality we could have played players in for bigger chances.

“That's the only thing that we probably missed, aside from the fantastic goal by Bryan [Mbeumo], which was just offside, was the final cross or the final slide ball.”

He added: “You need to perform almost perfectly against these top-six sides.

“We are definitely getting closer, we’ve shown that in the performances and the wins we’ve had so far this season, but you need to be almost perfect to get a point or to win and, unfortunately, we were not quite perfect, but we were close.”
