Thomas Frank believes that Brentford were good value for their 3-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Yoane Wissa put the Bees in front during the dying embers of the first half and Bryan Mbeumo extended the lead from the spot following a frantic five minutes, which saw Tim Ream shown a second yellow card for bringing down Wissa inside the 18-yard box. Mbeumo then put the gloss on the victory, turning home substitute Kristoffer Ajer’s low cross from close range.
“Maybe I’ll have a glass of red later,” Frank began with a smile. “It’s always easier off the back of a 3-0 win, and we need to enjoy it.
“Of course, we should celebrate today and be happy because everyone works so hard at the club – players and staff.”
Frank continued: “The first half was very even. We defended very well, and we were very good in the high pressure.
“I wanted a bit more quality during the first half but, overall, it was good. And for Yoane Wissa to steal that ball and then be so composed and so cool, I loved that finish.
“During the second half, until the penalty, I thought we were the dangerous side. We were the side that created the moments and the chances.
“I think it was a penalty and we got up 2-0. Then of course the red card was tough for them to take. It should have then been game over, and it was game over.”
Frank reserved special praise for Wissa, who netted his second goal of the season at Craven Cottage.
During the final minute of the first half, the DR Congo international seized on Issa Diop’s under-hit back-pass, rounded Bernd Leno and slid low into an empty net.
“He’s always been a goalscorer, that’s why we looked at him in France, and that’s why we like him here,” said Frank. “We just know that he can score goals, and I actually think he’s better as a nine than a winger.”
The Bees head coach then turned his attention to the other end of the pitch.
“I’m very pleased with the defending because it’s a team effort,” he said. “The reason we are very good at defending is because we have 11 players defending. That’s massive.
“Mark Flekken did very well last week and this week he was again up there. For a keeper, it’s about consistency. He was composed in his distribution and good at coming for crosses. He made one good save and played with a presence.
“Nathan Collins I was also very pleased with; he made some crucial blocks and tackles.”
