Brentford head coach Thomas Frank said he was 'so pleased' with his side’s performance against an in-form Aston Villa side at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

The Bees drew 1-1 with the Villans, who had won five consecutive league games before their visit to west London, and Frank believes there should have been 'only one winner'.

"I am so pleased," he said, after the game. "The players did everything we asked of them - I think it was close to a complete performance in many, many ways.

“The way we dominated Villa throughout the game until that equaliser, where they had one half-chance to [Jacob] Ramsey, was incredible, against a team that’s in great form.

“That's a good indicator of how well we have done today; creating plenty of chances, plenty of opportunities to make it 2-0. So, in many ways, I’m very pleased.”

When asked if it was another game where the fine margins went against his side, he added: “That's the thing that’s so tricky and so difficult, especially for myself - I need to be this calm guy and look at things from a bigger perspective.

“I look at the performance and it's still difficult to cope with because you're standing here and there should be only one winner in this game, if you look at everything, only one winner.

“So, from that perspective, it's difficult to cope with. But that is football and we need to accept that."

Frank then looked ahead to Brentford's next game - a west London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

And the Bees boss stated that it would still be a difficult game, despite the Blues' position in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

"We need to analyse this game first, look what we could have changed a little bit, and then prepare for Wednesday," he concluded.

“Of course, we'll do our very best to try to win there. I know they are not in the best place, but it’s still Chelsea. They have some fantastic players and it will be another difficult game.”
