Defender Kristoffer Ajer made his 50th Brentford appearance on Sunday as the Bees fell to a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The Norway international has made the right side of defence his own in recent weeks and contributed to some of the Bees’ brightest moments at Anfield.

“It’s been a great time,” he said. “It’s a family club, a club that I Iove to be at, so I’m just extremely grateful to be around these players and staff.”

Ajer was keen to remain upbeat despite the Bees’ defeat on Merseyside - their first loss in four Premier League matches.

The west Londoners outperformed their hosts on expected goals (1.66 to Liverpool’s 1.57) and had 16 attempts on the Reds’ goal.

“Of course, it was always going to be difficult,” said Ajer.

“Liverpool played a very good game, but I also think we created a lot of good chances, which is a positive thing.

“We know that we can create chances against any team, and we played some very good spells. We can take a lot of encouraging things with us."

Ajer continued: “[Liverpool] have top attacking players. They are probably the best counter-attacking side in the world. To be able to create chances and defend their counter-attacks is difficult.

“It’s been a very good period from the last international break to this one; we’ve won three games and performed well.”
